John Carpenter: ‚Lost Themes‘, erstes Album seit 14 Jahren, kommt im Februar – Single ‚Vortex‘ hier hören

Am 3. Februar 2015 veröffentlicht John Carpenter „Lost Themes“, sein erstes Album seit seinem Score zu „Ghosts of Mars“ von 2001. Der 66-Jährige feiert mit der im kommenden Jahr erscheinenden Platte auch sein Debüt als Solokünstler, die bisherigen Werke, darunter die bahnbrechenden Arbeiten zu „Assault on Precinct 13th“ (1976), „Halloween“ (1978) und „Escape from New York“ (1981), sind allesamt Gemeinschaftsproduktionen.
„Lost Themes“ ist zudem Carpenters erstes, nicht an einen Film gebundenes Album. Es enthält Outtakes sowie Neuaufnahmen, und erscheint auf dem Label „Sacred Bones“ (Zola Jesus).
Die Vorabsingle „Vortex“ gibt es bereits im Netz – der Pianolauf erinnert an „The Fog“, die muskulöse Synthi-E-Gitarren-Produktion kommt Carpenters Apokalypse-Vision von „They Live“ nahe. An der Platte hat auch sein Sohn Cody mitgewirkt.
John Carpenter in eigenen Worten zu „Lost Themes“:
Lost Themes was all about having fun. It can be both great and bad to score over images, which is what I’m used to. Here there were no pressures. No actors asking me what they’re supposed to do. No crew waiting. No cutting room to go to. No release pending. It’s just fun. And I couldn’t have a better set-up at my house, where I depended on (collaborators) Cody (Carpenter, of the band Ludrium) and Daniel (Davies, who scored I, Frankenstein) to bring me ideas as we began improvising. The plan was to make my music more complete and fuller, because we had unlimited tracks. I wasn’t dealing with just analogue anymore. It’s a brand new world. And there was nothing in any of our heads when we started other than to make it moody.
